Many people are not sure what should be done to ensure their venus flytrap plant is at the best state. The plant may seem complicated but there is really nothing challenging when it comes to taking care of it. The same also applies to growing the plant.

You can take care of the venus flytrap just the same way as you would with other plants. You can grow the plant indoors or outdoors; wherever you would wish it to eat bugs. Wherever you choose to grow venus flytrap, make sure it is located at a place where it will receive plenty of sunlight. The venus flytrap needs approximately eight hours of sunlight on a daily basis. If you are growing the plant indoors, make sure it's near an open window where it can get direct sunlight.

Your fly trap should be watered occasionally to help it in manufacture of food. However, you should be careful not to over-water or else the plant will rot. The best practice is to allow just enough water that will not make the soil wet. The best water for the venus fly trap is rainwater or distilled water. Also, make sure the pot where you have placed the plant has holes at the bottom so that excess water can drain freely into a tray. The recommended way of watering the plant is to allow about four inches of water into the bottom of the tray. When excess water has drained off, you can pour some more.

If your venus fly trap is healthy, it should be able to start catching bugs indoors. In some cases, you may need to guide the plant to catch flies. You can guide the plant by feeding it live bugs. As the live bug struggles on the plant, its motion will stimulate the hairs on the flytrap, which will in turn make the plant to close. If you cannot get a live bug, a dead one can also work. Put the dead bug on the trap and move it gently to create the illusion that it is moving. On feeling the motion, the trap hairs will be stimulated and close the plant.

As you get used to taking care of your plant, you will not have a problem feeding it. The flytrap can go for long a long time without having to eat a bug. Some people prefer feeding the fly traps to see how they eat the flies. Ideally, you should feed the plant on bugs once a month.

If you are not sure whether your venus flytrap will survive indoors, you can plant it outdoors. You must allow your plant to go into dormancy for a period of 3 to 4 months during winter. If you fail to allow for the dormancy period, the plant will die. You can buy venus fly trap plants online or at local plant stores.
